![]() ![]() In comparing size, Smithville is about 7200 acres. Guys with GPS that can track the old river channel do ok, or on a jet powered boat where if you hit something it wont destroy your prop/lower unit, but I'd stay away. Therefor, between the two bridges on the main part of the lake is where you'll typically be, and outside of those bridges on the lakes arms are less navigable by amateurs due to all the tree stumps you'll ruin a prop on. There's lots of animal refuge area, where trees and stumps weren't removed as a way to keep fish habitat. As for comparison in size, yes, Smithville is pretty large, unfortunately over half of it really isn't usable for pleasure boaters. I love Summit Bar and Grill and it is close but its not really a post up and get hammered sort of place. I'd rather go to Lotawana (private?), W圜o, Longivew, etc if you are going to be drinking. I've canoed out there and gone fishing and I don't think I've ever see a group partying. As others have mentioned its a sailing lake. No clue on how busy it is this season or if they are having high water like all the other lakes around here. If you live on the south side of the metro, its probably not all that much further to Clinton MO than it is to Smithville. It will suffice and its close but there are much better options if you are willing to drive to Truman or further. I don't think they have bars and restaurants on the water. ![]() They act like its mud/prairie lake like you'd find in KS. My cousin and her family frequent Smithville, they said it would be the biggest lake in KS fwiw. I just looked it up and Smithville is basically the same size as Pomme de Terre, which comes as quite a surprise to me. I've hit Longview a couple of times and it is very crowded as it's not very big and Smithville is apparently over 7 times larger than Longview.
